Timisoara June 1997


Some of the working photojournalist and journalism students who participated in the photojournalism program held in Timisoara (instructor is bottom row center).


June 6th 1997 was the first of five days of intensive hands on photojournalism training sponsored by the Soros Foundation and the journalism department at the University of Timisoara. The program was designed to offer the participants the opportunity to shoot, process, print and critique a wide range of photo assignments. The purpose was to familiarize the participants with the basic techniques used by American photojournalist and to improve over all quality and editorial content of their photos. All the participants and the instructor concluded the program with a better understanding of the the unique problems and strengths of Romanian photojournalist.

The major accomplishment of the week was the discussion and beginnings of a professional photojournalism association for all Romaian photojournalist. It was agreed that the association would be modeled after the American "National Press Photographer Association".
